The sad story of a former nigerian star boy Kelechi Nwakali

There are so many reasons why a young player would struggle to shine. some reasons are:

Poor attitude, injuries,a bad relationship with his manager, the wrong move at the wrong time, the pressure of expectation, paperwork, and so on. But Kelechi Nwakali had some of the mentioned list, but his main problem is the problem which strikes fear into the heart of a foreign player, which is paperwork. Kelechi Nwakali signed for Arsenal in 2016 as a teenager. Having played an incredible football in Nigerian's triumph at the under-17 FIFA world cup. Nigeria were great at that world cup and had so many stars in that competition. Nigeria scored a total of 23 goals in 7 matches, including a 5-1 win against host chile in the group stage. they also won Australia 6-0 in the round of 16, and won Brazil 3-0 in the last eight. the went on to defeat Mexico 4-2 in the semi final before trashing Mali 2-0 in an All-Africa Final. The Nigeria team had two major stars, Victor Osimhen, and Kelechi Nwakali. Osimhen went on to win the Golden Boot with a mammoth 10 goals while Nwakali won the Golden Ball for the best player. That same Golden ball trophy has been won by Cesc Fabregas and Toni Kroos. However, Victor Osimhen was in high demands across europe due to the amount of goals he scored.

He later moved to Lille and made an amazing exhibition, he later moved to Napoli in a record breaking deal. However, Nwakali who is 22 is now on loan at spanish second division Alcorcon from LaLiga club Huesca. He first joined Arsenal from a Nigeria Football team Diamond Academy, but work permit issues stopped him from going to England and playing in the Premier League. but he instead had to spend some time on loan in Netherland with MVV Maastricht and also VVV-Venlo. He later got a chance to go to portugal with a loan to Porto in 2018-19, but that did not work out as he thought it would be as he never played for Porto first team. they made him played for Porto B instead making just 16 appearance. things later got even worse in march 2019, when he was trapped in Nigeria due to another visa problems. Super eagles coach Gernot Rohr called him up to face seychelles in 2019 for a cup of nations qualifier. A match in which Nwakali did not later play and was trapped in Nigeria. "i did not have a portuguese resident card, and i was not ready before i left for Nigeria. i went for that game because it was my first official call-up for the super eagles. and i was stuck in Nigeria for three months. by the end of the season, no club wanted me, they said i haven't been playing." Nwakali told BBC. "i learnt a big lesson that it is important you perform at your club first, though the National team is important, but i did not make the right decision at the right moment." Nwakali was later discharged by Arsenal in september 2019. He is currently settled in spain with a 3 years contract with Huesca.
